The Problem: Low Ducts
A client came to us recently with a low ductwork problem. They wanted their basement space to be more useable, but the ducts were constantly in the way. Converting their basement space to a theater room was becoming extremely difficult. This problem is common in homes that were built before the 80’s, as there was greater focus on building homes quickly and cheaply. This led to many homes with ducts placed in inconvenient locations.
The Solution
In order to fix the low duct issue, we were able to plan out a better route for the duct system. This new route would allow the basement space to be more use able. We wanted to ensure that the room could still be comfortable, without compromising the effectiveness of the duct system. By redesigning the duct system, we were able to place it in a more convenient location, as well as add some return air register to create better airflow. This both allowed the room to be usable, as well as ensured a more comfortable temperature. In many cases, homes that don’t have sufficient air return causes the building to have hot and cold spots, rather than consistent heating.
